Health E-Hint: The “Royal Treatment” at Breakfast Helps You Fight Hunger All Day!

New research has confirmed what many of you have known for years—that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You might even know the old expression, “eat like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunch and a pauper at dinner.”

A group of researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University decided to test the truthfulness of this statement. They compared a big breakfast diet against a low-carb diet. The breakfast diet consisted of 1,240 calories—with 640 calories consumed during the first meal of the day. The low-carb diet consisted of 1,085 calories with the majority coming from protein and fat.

The results? Over four months, the low-carb dieters lost on average slightly more weight. But when studied over an eight month period, the low-carb dieters stopped losing weight while the breakfast dieters showed more weight loss!

Researchers concluded that a healthy, nutritious breakfast can ward off midday or afternoon hunger where you can fall victim to a calorie and fat-loaded lunch, or succumb to sugary snacks.

So, treat yourself like royalty and serve up a filling, healthy breakfast to keep your hunger at bay all day long!
