Policosanol—a chemical obtained from sugar cane—is viewed as a remedy for cholesterol imbalances in the blood and liver, however research results have been mixed. A study reported in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition in 2009 found benefits for brain health and nerves (mood and reactivity) when policosanol was administered with Omega-3 fatty acids.
